The Kodner lab is interested in microalgae diversity and evolution in changing environments. We study algae living in snowy alpine environments and algae living in our local marine waters of Bellingham Bay. We focus our work in two major research areas – 1) characterizing microalgae communities in our local region using molecular techniques including metagenomics and 2) developing bioinformatic analysis methods and pipelines that are optimized for analyzing environmental genomic data. Read more about our current and former research projects on the Research page. Interested MSc students are encouraged to contact Dr. Kodner about research opportunities.
